Based on the guidance from the California Department of Public Health, public and private schools in Imperial County are not able to reopen for in-person instruction at this time. According to the State’s guidelines, schools in counties that have been on the State’s COVID-19 Monitoring List within the last 14 days must conduct distance learning until their county has been off the monitoring list for at least 14 days. While numbers in Imperial County continue to improve, we remain on the State’s data monitoring list. Additionally and in an effort to support the continued decreases in COVID-19 infection rates, the Imperial County Health Officer has determined that no waivers will be considered at this time.
Recently the California Department of Public health announced problems with their data reporting system resulting in a backload of COVID-19 cases being reported to counties statewide. This resulted in lower than actual COVID 19 cases being reported on our dashboard. This issue has been resolved. The backlog of cases for Imperial County have been cross-checked and forwarded for case investigation and contact tracing. The backlog was reflected on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. Steps have been taken to ensure that positive cases have been linked to the appropriate dates.
