Rabies Testing

Imperial County Public Health Laboratory offers rabies testing of animals. Bats and other small animals can be sent in and tested if there is an exposure (human or animal) or if there is a concern about the animal?s behavior or if a bat is found inside a house. Larger animals are usually handled through the various animal control agencies. The lab normally receives just the brain. Larger animals that have been tested include dogs, cats, skunks and other mammals.

If there is a concern about an aggressive animal, or is there is an exposure, please contact your local animal control agency. The Rabies Test Submittal Form is included on this page and in the forms page. If you have questions regarding rabies testing, contact Imperial County Public Health Laboratory at (760) 482-4437.
