For further information about any testing, whether listed below or not, or to arrange courier pick-up, call the laboratory. Our reference laboratory offers many tests not listed here. Additionally, the laboratory is continually assessing new testing needs based on public health issues, community needs and new technology. Blood Lead Screening Imperial County Public Health Laboratory has an active blood lead screening program. Through Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) providers, this test is offered. A finger stick is performed on the child, which is then transferred to a laboratory provided preservative vial.
Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Testing is performed by DNA probe. Appropriate samples are urine, vaginal or urethral swabs (males).
HIV ? Serum and Oral Fluid, Viral Loads Screening for HIV is determined by ELISA testing. Confirmation of positive results is performed using the Western Blot Assay.
Syphilis screening and confirmation tests The VDRL test is used to screen for antibodies to Treponema pallidum, the organism that causes syphilis. The confirmatory test is the FTA-ABS.
West Nile Virus Screening and Confirmation Serum samples are screened by IFA for both IgG and IgM or by an ELISA test. Testing normally coincides with the summer mosquito season, but is offered year-round.
Quantiferon (Tb screening) blood test TB screening blood test that does not require a return visit to read and will not produce a positive for someone who has been previously vaccinated with BCG.
