Additional Case Reporting Information

HIV/AIDS Reporting Information, (Updated January 2010)
For general reporting practices please refer to the "HIV/AIDS Reporting Protocol" link found on this page. The following is information that is also reported for HIV/AIDS cases:

Case Updates:

Updates include: death, change in health status from HIV to AIDS due to low CD4 count or a diagnosis of an opportunistic infection, and/or if any confirmation of risk behavior is reported (please see section V. of the CCR.)

Out-of-Jurisdiction and Out-of-State Cases:

Any out-of-jurisdiction and/or out-of-state case needs to be reported to the Imperial County Public Health Department - HIV Surveillance Program. Please complete a Confidential Case Report (CCR) and note any known previous places of residency in the comments section.

Deaths:

The HIV Surveillance Program must be notified of any deaths of HIV or AIDS cases. Please complete a CCR and update the record with information of the date and jurisdiction of when and where the death occured and submit to the HIV Surveillance Coordinator.

Incidence Surveillance:

As of January 2009 the California Department of Public Health has implemented a new reporting component in order to estimate incidence of HIV infection in California. All newly diagnosed cases must be accompanied by a completed "HIV Incidence Surveillance Information (HIS)" form. Please refer to the "HIV/AIDS Reporting Forms" link found on this page to access the CCR and HIS form.
