Monkeypox Vaccination Eligibility in Imperial County

If you have been exposed to monkeypox, getting vaccinated may keep you from getting sick. Vaccination is most effective within four days of exposure but can help up to 14 days later.

Vaccine supplies are extremely limited and currently available only to high-risk populations. Second doses of Monkeypox vaccine can now be administered to high-risk individuals who have received a first dose. Second doses should be administered at least 28 days after the first dose.

At this time, the following people who live and/or work in Imperial County are eligible to receive the vaccine:

  • Gay, bisexual, and other men or trans people who have sex with men, who have had more than one sexual partner in the past 14 days
  • Sex workers of any sexual orientation or gender identity
  • People who had close contact in the past 14 days with someone who has suspected or confirmed monkeypox
  • People who had close contact in the past 14 days with others at a venue, event or social gathering where a suspected or confirmed monkeypox case was identified

If you are a laboratory or healthcare worker and believe that you qualify for monkeypox vaccination, please discuss it with your healthcare provider.  At this time, laboratory workers who routinely perform monkeypox virus testing or healthcare providers who had a high-risk exposure at work, such as collecting and handling monkeypox specimens without personal protective equipment, may be eligible for vaccination.
