Workplace Reporting of COVID-19 Positive Cases
Reporting COVID-19 Positive Cases
In accordance with Assembly Bill 685 (AB 685), Cal/OSHA, and California Department of Public Health, Imperial County employers are required to notify the Imperial County Public Health Department of all confirmed or suspected COVID-19 related outbreaks within their workplace.
Outbreak Definition: Three or more COVID-19 cases among employees within a 14-day period. Once this threshold is met, employers have 48 hours to report to their Local Health Department.
Important Update
As of January 1, 2023, many provisions of AB 685 are no longer in effect. Employers should consult Labor Code 6409.6 and the Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention Non-Emergency Regulations to ensure that they are in compliance with current requirements regarding employee notification of COVID-19 cases in the workplace.
However, health care providers, schools, or administrator of a health facility, clinic, or other congregate setting must report COVID-19 outbreaks in compliance with California Code of Regulations, Title 17, (CCR) 2500, 2593, 2641.5-2643.20, and 2800-2812 Reportable Diseases and Conditions.
