Please note the Imperial County Public Health Department will be open for appointments only. Department staff will be available to provide assistance by phone to members of the community who have questions related to any of the Department’s essential services.

Phone assistance will be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The office will be closed for lunch from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. This shall remain in effect until further notice.

Certification

Emergency Medical Technicians can be certified in Imperial County after completion of an approved training program. Current EMTs, from other counties, and Paramedics licensed in California can receive certification and/or accreditation.

Certifications:

A completed application packet including supporting documentation can be emailed to EMS@co.imperial.ca.us or dropped off at the Imperial County Public Health Department located at 935 Broadway Avenue in El Centro.

Payment can be completed over the phone by calling (442)265-1444 or a check made payable to Imperial County Public Health Department can be included with your application packet.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (Also known as EMT II prior to 7-01-10).

Process for AEMT Recertification:

  1. Review Policy #2300 for AEMT Certification
  2. Call (442) 265-1444 to schedule an appointment for AEMT Certification
  3. Bring to your appointment the following:

  • Completed AEMT Application Form (may be completed at time of appointment)
  • Current AEMT Certification
  • Documentation of meeting required continuing education in accordance with Policy #2300
  • Evidence of passing the written and skills National Registry of EMTs certification exam
  • Pay established fee.

A fee of $47.00 for recertification is due to Imperial County Public Health Department. This includes $37.00 recertification fee to EMS Authority, and a $10.00 already established process fee for Imperial County EMS Agency. Do not mail cash. Please make checks payable to: Imperial County Public Health Department

If criminal history report has not been filed with EMS, submit a copy of Live Scan Application Form to Imperial County Emergency Medical Services Agency.

  • Current AEMT Certification

  3. Bring to your appointment the following:

  • Completed EMT Application Form (may be completed at time of appointment)
  • Current National Registry EMT-Basic Certification
  • Proof of ID (CA Drivers License, CA Identification Card, Military ID, Passport)
  • Pay established fee.

A fee of $85.00 for initial certification is due to Imperial County Public Health Department. This includes $75.00 certification fee to EMS Authority, and a $10.00 already established process fee for Imperial County EMS Agency. Do not mail cash. Please make checks payable to: Imperial County Public Health Department.

Submit a completed Live Scan Application copy.

Process for EMT Recertification:

  1. Review Policy #2100 for EMT Recertification and submit the following:

  • A completed EMT Application form
  • A completed EMT Statement of CE and attach copies of CE Certificates or - submit proof of completion of EMT Refresher Course (Include copy of Refresher Course Certificate)
  • A completed EMT-I Skills Verification form
  • Pay established fee.

A fee of $47.00 for recertification is due to Imperial County Public Health Department. This fee includes $37.00 for recertification to EMS Authority, and a $10.00 already established process fee for Imperial County EMS Agency. Do not mail cash. Process for MICN Authorization (Initial)

  1. Review Policy #2500 for MICN Authorization
  2. Call (442) 265-1444 to schedule an appointment for accreditation

Bring to your appointment the following:

  • Completed Application Form (may be completed at time of appointment)
  • Current California State Registered Nurse License
  • Evidence of current ACLS certification
  • Evidence of completion of local MICN Course
  • Proof of employment in accordance with Policy #2500
  • Proof of ID (CA Drivers License, CA Identification Card, Military ID, Passport)
  • Cash or check for $20.00 made payable to the Public Health Dept.

Process for MICN Re-Authorization:

  1. Review Policy #2500 for MICN Authorization

  2. Mail in required documents and fee or call (760) 482-4768 to schedule an appointment for accreditation

  3. Mail or bring to your appointment the following:

  • Completed Application Form (may be completed at time of appointment)
  • Copy of current California State Registered Nurse License
  • Copy of current ACLS certification
  • Evidence of required continuing education
  • Proof of employment (in accordance with Policy #2500)
  • Cash or check for $20.00 made payable to the Public Health Dept. (Please do not send cash by mail)

Process for Paramedic Accreditation:

  1. Review Policy #2400 for EMT-P Accreditation
  2. Call (442) 265-1444 to schedule an appointment for accreditation

Bring to your appointment the following:

  • Completed Application Form (may be completed at time of appointment)
  • Current California State Paramedic license
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR Card
  • Proof of ID (CA Drivers License, CA Identification Card, Military ID, Passport)
  • Cash, Debit, Credit or Check for $20.00 made payable to the Public Health Dept. (Checks will be held for up to two weeks prior to card processing)
  • A pre-accreditation field evaluation will be required to familiarize applicant with local policies and for EMS system orientation.
