Community Obesity Prevention Alliance - COPA
The Imperial County Community Obesity Prevention Alliance (COPA) was first formed in January 2009 in response to the Imperial County Public Health Department's First Five: Healthy Children, Healthy Lives Program. The alliance was one of four strategies that focused on reducing the prevalence of obesity among children 0-5 years old, their caregivers/families in Imperial County. In 2018, COPA officially changed its name from Childhood Obesity Prevention Alliance to Community Obesity Prevention Alliance. In 2019, the Imperial County Public Health Department’s First Five: Healthy Children, Healthy Lives Program stepped down as the lead for COPA and the alliance then transferred over to CalFresh Healthy Living Program and the County Nutrition Action Partnership (CNAP). COPA is comprised of 3 workgroups led by community members: Physical Activity, Nutrition/Healthy Eating, & Food Security.
