We have provided a link to the County’s Health Status Report, a resource that you can use to see how we are doing as a County. Many factors contribute to the overall health status of a community. Some of those factors can be improved through public health measures, while others cannot. Childhood vaccinations are one of most significant public health measures to date and have greatly reduced the number of cases of certain communicable diseases such as measles, mumps, and rubella.

Other factors are more global in nature and cannot be addressed through public health measures alone. Many people have no health-care insurance which limits their ability to access care when needed. This results in higher rates of late or no prenatal care or hospitalizations for asthma. The percentage of children living in families at or below the poverty level is an indicator of global risk factors that could impact access to health care.
