HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS. Unlike some other viruses, the human body cannot get rid of HIV. That means that once you have HIV, you have it for life. All cases of HIV and AIDS must be reported to the local Public Health Department. The Adult HIV/AIDS Case Report form is used to report cases of HIV infection in individuals who are 13 years of age or older at the time of diagnosis.

For more information or for assistance with reporting a case, contact the Epidemiology section at (442) 265-1464.
