Pet License

What is a Pet License?

In Imperial County, all dogs over 4 months old must be licensed when they receive their rabies vaccination—this applies to local cities too. A dog license is more than just a requirement; it’s your pet’s ticket home if they ever get lost. It also supports community programs like spay/neuter services, rabies prevention, and sanitation efforts.

To get a license, contact your veterinarian or your local animal control agency to find out where and how to apply.

Microchipping

What is Microchipping?

The Imperial County Animal Control Department encourages all pet owners to microchip their pets, along with keeping current ID tags and licenses. Microchips make it quick and easy to reunite lost pets with their families—especially during emergencies or natural disasters.

Our officers are equipped with scanners to read chip info and contact owners right away. Microchipping not only helps get pets home faster, it also saves shelter resources like time, space, and food. Talk to your local vet about this simple, life-saving step!
