Hazardous Materials Management Program
On July 1, 2021 Imperial County Public Health Department Environmental Health Division entered into an agreement with Department of Toxic Substances Control Imperial Certified Unified Program Agency (DTSC Imperial CUPA) to administer the Aboveground Petroleum Storage Act (APSA) Program as a Participating Agency.
Effective January 1, 2024, the oversight was expanded to include the administration of the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Program.
DTSC Imperial CUPA continues to administer the following program elements in Imperial County:
Hazardous Waste Generator and Tiered Permitting Program (HWG)
Public health and environmental protection through regulation of facilities that generate, treat, and/or recycle hazardous waste.Hazardous Materials Business Plan (HMBP)
Public health and environmental protection through regulation and providing public access to information about facilities that store, handle, or use hazardous materials.California Accidental Release Prevention (CalARP)
Prevention of hazardous material release and public safety protection through permitting and inspection of facilities storing, handling, or are using extremely hazardous materials.
The Imperial County Environmental Health participates on the Imperial County Hazardous Emergency Assistance Team (HEAT) in providing health and safety expertise in the containment and cleanup of accidental spills and or releases.
